Deputy Head, Secondary
Working with Boys is brilliant at explaining the adolescent boy's mind, motivation and particularly the fear of humiliation. The units of study are relatively short and easily digestible with simple but creative ideas for guiding boys in their understanding of different forms of masculinity. I particularly enjoyed the chapter on banter; I've always searched for the best way to discuss this with boys and I have never heard it summarised so well as Hampton does in just 6 words: 'Humour is the currency of influence'. I cannot recommend Working with Boys enough for anyone who works with boys in education. The best CPD I've had for a long time.
Andrew Hampton's talk at Becket Keys was nothing short of transformative. His insights on fostering positive masculinity among teenage boys were both enlightening and practical.
Working with Boys is much needed and the timing is perfect. There is too much toxic masculinity in society and this course will make people rethink.
As an experienced teacher and pastoral deputy I thoroughly recommend Working with Boys. Andrew Hampton has some astute and intelligent insights into what motivates boys' behaviour, but most importantly he has practical and effective approaches as to how to improve the situation.
Really rate this as a practical, evidence-based and concise approach to the issues facing so many schools right now. Looking forward to implementing the PSHE lessons asap and using the ideas, discussion points and strategies from part 2 to make sustainable and thoughtful changes.
